Top 5 Recipes to Make When You’re Camping in Gettysburg!

We asked our Facebook followers to share with us their favorite meals to make when camping in Gettysburg, Pa. and these were voted the five best recipes. 1. Banana S’mores Boats

Ingredients:

  • Bananas
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Graham Crackers
  • Mini Marshmallows

Directions:

  1. Cut a slit longways in a banana.
  2. Stuff it with chocolate chips, graham crackers and mini marshmallows.
  3. Cover in tin foil.
  4. Let it sit over the fire for a few minutes
  5. Open it back up and enjoy the gooey goodness!

 

2. Farm Market Chicken Packs

 Ingredients:

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Tenders
  • Zucchini
  • Summer Squash
  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Your Favorite Oil-Based Salad Dressing
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Sourdough Bread

Directions:

  1. Marinate the boneless skinless chicken tenders in your favorite oil-based salad dressing.
  2. Slice up the vegetables.
  3. Layer the veggies in aluminum foil packets.
  4. Place the chicken on top of the veggies and pour on a small amount of extra marinade.
  5. Seal the foil packet and roast in warm coals until the chicken is done.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top to melt.
  7. Serve with sourdough bread from the Gettysburg Baking Co. or Hollabaugh Bros., as recommended by Becky.

 

3. Hot Turkey Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes Mountain Pie

Ingredients:

  • Sliced Turkey
  • Turkey Gravy
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Butter
  • Bread

Directions:

  1. Butter your bread and place in the mountain pie makers.
  2. Place two slices of turkey, a spoonful of gravy and a spoonful of mashed potatoes on your bread.
  3. Toast on an open fire and enjoy!

 

4. Mountain Man Breakfast

 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. Pork Sausages
  • 1 Bag Shredded Hash Browns, frozen
  • 12 Eggs
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, diced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, diced
  • 1 lb. Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Directions:

  1. Sauté sausage until done in a deep camp Dutch oven.
  2. Whisk eggs in mixing bowl.
  3. Add onion, red bell pepper and green bell pepper to sausage mixture and stir.
  4. Add hash browns to mixture, using enough to mix well but don’t overload the Dutch oven – leave room for eggs!
  5. Stir mixture slightly and pour beaten eggs over the top allowing them to sink into the hash browns.
  6. Hang over medium hook and bake until eggs begin to set firm.
  7. Remove from fire and top with cheddar cheese.
  8. Cover, add top coals and hang on higher hook to continue baking for approximately 30 minutes. Serves 12-14.

 

5. Chicken with Salsa and Black Beans

 Ingredients:

  • 4-5 Chicken Breasts Seasoned with Salt, Pepper and Garlic Powder
  • 1 Can of Black Beans, drained
  • 1 Large jar of Salsa, mild or spicy
  • Rice

Directions:

  1. Make an aluminum foil packet for the chicken.
  2. Pour salsa over the chicken.
  3. Pour drained black beans over the salsa.
  4. Take foil and wrap up loosely. Cook chicken until done.
  5. Serve over rice.
